We will unveil the rivers and tropical dry forests of the most important protected area of the region. We walk through the short trails of the Park or hike upstream a river to reach the Brazil Waterfall.

Explore Diria National Park: Two Ways to Adventure

Discover the beauty of Diria National Park with two unique tour options to suit your schedule and adventure level:

Quick Getaway (5–6 Hours)

Perfect for those looking for a shorter experience.

Choose from two routes:

A) Nature Walk & Waterhole: 1 km loop trail (intermediate difficulty) where you can explore lush forest and enjoy a refreshing dip in year-round waterholes at Brazil Creek.

B) Hike to the Waterfall: For a bit more challenge, trek 1.5 km up and 1.5 km down the creek (intermediate to advanced difficulty, depending on water levels) to reach the seasonal waterfall (available May–January).

Full Hike Adventure (7–8 Hours)

Choose one of two routes in the Quick Getaway Option

This tour includes both the 1-kilometer loop and the hike to the Brazil Creek waterfall, featuring an authentic Costa Rican traditional lunch by the waterfall (available May–January).

Meeting Point: Your Hotel or Accomodation (Avellanas, Playa Negra and Junquillal Area

Sample Itinerary

  • 7:30 AM: Pick-up and departure from your hotel or Airbnb
  • 8:15 AM: Bakery stop for optional pastries and use of restrooms (no visitor center or bathrooms are available at the Park).
  • 9:00 AM: Arrival at Park Rangers Headquarters. Cross a small river to reach the trailhead. (River may vary from dry in summer to 3 feet deep in rainy season.)
  • 9:15 AM: Beginning of the walk on a 3/4 mile loop trail (with a steep section) to discover the local flora biodiversity, and tropical hardwoods, and study the forest regeneration process.
  • 10:45 AM: Visit a water hole to cool off and relax.
  • 11:15 AM: Drive back to Santa Cruz for a lunch stop at a local restaurant.
  • 1:30 PM: Drop-off back to your accommodation.

Diria National Park

The difference in price between the Half Day and Extended Half Day Tour ranges from $15 to $25, depending on the group size.
Brazil Waterfall might be short of water or dry between late December and April, but the Water Holes stay all year long to cool to enjoy.
Breakfast Stop is no included but can be set if Pick-up is cooridnated 45 earlier and stop at a local Restaurant on the way ($6-10pp)
