LA CARPINTERA AT NIGHT: THE HIDDEN NOCTURNAL WILDLIFE OF SAN JOSÉ

Discover the secrets of San Jose mountains at night.

Immerse yourself in the symphony of the nocturnal rainforest.

Join a biologist-led group for an intimate exploration. Experience the thrill of uncovering nocturnal wildlife – insects, frogs, snakes, spiders, and mammals.

We will meet at Cerros de la Carpintera just before sunset (no worries, it’s safe and you can arrive by Uber, look for directions below), this is one of the last remaining patches of rainforest within the city. Upon arrival, you will be provided with flashlights, and after a brief educational talk, we will be ready to begin.

Immerse yourself in the darkness of La Carpintera Protected Zone for 2 hours and traverse natural trails in search of animals that emerge only after nightfall. With luck, we may encounter insects, mushrooms, spiders, mammals, frogs, and snakes!

Take a respite from the city and relish the panoramic view of city lights while listening to the symphony of sounds that nature offers us. Learn from your biologist guide about the vital importance of preserving every remaining patch of forest we have in San Jose!
