Why explore Costa Rica with Oropopo Experience?

Well, our purpose is to transform the relationship between humans and nature through memorable destinations and experiences offered by extraordinary people. If this resonates with you, come join us.

From classmates to entrepreneurs and researchers:

We are a small team of biologists from the capital city of San Jose.  Most of us have been classmates in the School of Biology at the University of Costa Rica, which in fact has been a great platform to explore and learn about the diverse ecosystems and landscapes of the country added to our 5 years of experience in Environmental Education and the Tourism Industry gave us the tools to establish Oropopo at the end of 2016.

It has been a great adventure up to this date when we have even trascendend physical limitations by performing Educational Virtual Field Trips during the COVID-19 Lockdown for schools all around the world.

So... What on earth does Oropopo mean?

The Oropopo (Pulsatrix perspicillata) or spectacled owl, is the largest predator in the night skies of the country. The name is an onomatopoeia of it’s mystical song.

This bird was sacred to our indigenous people. To us, it’s gaze represents the ability to observe beyond the naked eye. We are passionate about sharing “the vision of the Oropopo” in order to see and connect deeply with nature. This means to actually enter the forest with respect, humility and with all our senses ready to perceive what nature can show and teach us.

Since it’s the largest owl in the country, and virtually inhabits the entire country, we like to think that although the vast majority of people have not seen it, it is very likely that an Oropopo has already seen you.

Join us in our misson to reconnect with nature and see it through the eyes of Oropopo.
