From classmates to entrepreneurs and researchers:
We are a small team of biologists from the capital city of San Jose. Most of us have been classmates in the School of Biology at the University of Costa Rica, which in fact has been a great platform to explore and learn about the diverse ecosystems and landscapes of the country added to our 5 years of experience in Environmental Education and the Tourism Industry gave us the tools to establish Oropopo at the end of 2016.
Ha sido una gran aventura hasta esta fecha en la que incluso hemos trascendido las limitaciones físicas realizando Viajes de Campo Virtuales Educativos durante el Bloqueo COVID-19 para escuelas de todo el mundo.
ENTONCES... ¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA OROPOPO?
El oropopo(Pulsatrix perspicillata)) or spectacled owl, is the largest predator in the night skies of the country. The name is an onomatopoeia of it’s mystical song.
Esta ave era sagrada para nuestros pueblos indígenas. Para nosotros, su mirada representa la capacidad de observar más allá del ojo humano. Nos apasiona compartir "la visión del Oropopo" para ver y conectar profundamente con la naturaleza. Esto significa adentrarse realmente en el bosque con respeto, humildad y con todos los sentidos dispuestos a percibir lo que la naturaleza puede mostrarnos y enseñarnos.
Dado que es el búho más grande del país, y que prácticamente habita en todo su territorio, nos gusta pensar que, aunque la gran mayoría de la gente no lo haya visto, es muy probable que un Oropopo ya te haya visto.
