Tourtuguero: Great Green Turtle Nesting

How did a tiny piece of coast in Costa Rica became the world’s most important nesting site for the second largest existing sea turtle? Join us to find out!

Tortuguero is called by some the little Amazon rainforest with an extra feauture... massive sea turtles!

Every year for a few weeks between July and October, in the North Caribbean coast of Costa Rica there is a peak in the nesting of one of the most endangered sea turtle species in the world: the Green Turtle.

Tired and hungry females have swum across thousands of miles of ocean to reach the same beach where they themselves were born at least 20 years ago.

It is the beginning and the end of many cycles that will be full of dangers for the survival of this species and on this occasion, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the fragility and beauty of life and natural selection.

Greatest Wildlife Spectacles is a series of experiences designed by Oropopo inspired by the Ojalá Ediciones book of the same name. With this collaboration we seek to bring people closer to the natural wonders that our country offers and for which we are unique in the world.

Each of these experiences focuses on a particular show as well as the surrounding communities that have been associated with these events for years. We intend these journeys to be transformative and educational, to inspire and leave a mark on each of the participants.
